The Panamanian government gave new houses to 300 families. These families are from Cartí Sugtupu, a Caribbean island threatened by rising sea levels and overcrowding.
• The island’s indigenous communities have faced worsening floods and storm damage.
• Relocation plans started in 2015 with the construction of Nuevo Carti, a new mainland settlement.
• The new settlement cost over $12 million and families will move in next week.
