A new report by the Union of Concerned Scientists alleges Tyson Foods, one of the world’s biggest meat producers, is a major polluter in the United States.
- The report, titled “Waist Deep,” claims Tyson plants dumped over 371 million pounds of pollutants into U.S. waterways between 2018 and 2022.
- More than half of this pollution occurred in Nebraska, Illinois, and Missouri.
- The pollutants include nitrogen, ammonia, phosphorus, bacteria like E. coli, and blood and feces from processing.
