Meet General Sherman – the Largest Tree in the World

The General Sherman Tree is the largest living organism in the world by volume. It is located in Sequoia National Park, California.

• The tree is 275 feet tall, 36 feet in diameter at the base, and weighs over 2,000 tons.

• Giant sequoias only grow wild in California.

• The General Sherman Tree is estimated to be between 2,300 and 2,700 years old.

• The tree is named after Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman.

• The General Grant Tree, the world’s second largest tree, is also located in Sequoia National Park.

• Giant sequoias are fire resistant due to their thick bark.
